Local walk for World Alzheimer’s Day exceeds its fundraising target!

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the local community came together in support of World Alzheimer’s Day, participating in a 4km “From Home to Home” walk. The route began at Anastasia Lodge care home in Winchmore Hill, passed through the scenic Grovelands Park and along Southgate High Street, and concluded at Autumn Gardens care home in Southgate.

The event, blessed with perfect weather, surpassed expectations, raising more close to £4,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. Enfield’s Mayor, Councillor Mohammad Islam, joined our residents, their family and friends and our staff in showing support for those affected by dementia. Local media were also present to cover the event, broadcasting it to the local community.

This annual walk raises awareness and vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, the leading charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by dementia. As dementia rates continue to rise, with nearly 1 million people currently living with the condition in the UK, the support for events like this has never been more crucial.

The 4km route took participants through the picturesque Grovelands Park and down Southgate High Street, concluding at Autumn Gardens Care Home, where attendees enjoyed refreshments and homemade cakes in our garden. The event was fully wheelchair accessible, ensuring all members of our community could take part.

All proceeds raised from the walk will support the Alzheimer’s Society’s ongoing research and services, which are critical for those living with dementia and their families. Over the past six years, our homes have organised annual fundraising activities, collectively raising over £20,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Our team are grateful to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make this year’s walk a success. Together, the community is making a meaningful difference in the fight against dementia.
